STAR Inc began in 1986 under the name Action for the Intellectually Disabled People –Tenancy Support Scheme. Founded by a group of parents who were concerned for their children who had an intellectual disability, their concerns arose from the implementation of the de-institutionalization policy being proposed by the government of the day.

STAR is committed to providing quality teaching, support and advocacy services to our participants and to continue to do so we require appropriately skilled and motivated staff. Opportunities are available for people seeking work as Living Skills Teachers from time to time. Underpinning our quality services is STAR’s commitment to ensuring our staff have the necessary attributes and skills to teach and support participants to live a community based lifestyle of their choice.

Over the past 25 years STAR has developed a range of teaching resources to assist adults with disabilities to learn the skills required to successfully live independently. These resources do not rely on the individuals’ literacy skills for them to understand the processes or procedures involved.

The STAR Teaching and Supporting services aims to assist adults to learn and maintain the skills required to successfully live independently in the community. Our STAR Teaching and Supporting Programme is tailored to cater to each individual’s needs. We Work with clients in their home, on a one to one basis.
