    - STAR Inc began in 1986 under the name Action for the Intellectually Disabled People –Tenancy Support Scheme. Founded by a group of parents who were concerned for their children who had an intellectual disability, their concerns arose from the implementation of the de-institutionalization policy being proposed by the government of the day.

    - STAR is committed to providing quality teaching, support and advocacy services to our participants and to continue to do so we require appropriately skilled and motivated staff. Opportunities are available for people seeking work as Living Skills Teachers from time to time. Underpinning our quality services is STAR’s commitment to ensuring our staff have the necessary attributes and skills to teach and support participants to live a community based lifestyle of their choice.

These resources do not rely on the individuals’ literacy skills for them to understand the processes or procedures involved.

Our STAR Teaching and Supporting Programme is tailored to cater to each individual’s needs. We Work with clients in their home, on a one to one basis.

    - The STAR Volunteer Programme aims to link people with disabilities with a volunteer in the community for social support. There are opportunities for all, regardless of ability, to volunteer in the community.

There are opportunities for all, regardless of ability, to volunteer in the community. We recruit, orientate, train, police check and support volunteers to assist people with a disability to follow their interests within community settings.
